Every year, starting in about July, migratory southern right whales, after swimming thousands of kilometres from the Southern Ocean near Antarctica arrive in Hermanus to mate and calve in the relatively warmer waters. One of the longest migration in the world! Hermanus is world known for excellent land-based whale watching, where you can just stand on the rocks and spot whales. But not only the southern right whales are roaming around – you can also spot the magnificent Humpback Whale, which is migrating as well and the rare Brydes Whale which stays there all year long.
Adolf and Sonja just got back after a long back to back trip of the South Africa Rainbow Route SAa17 followed by a Cape To Vic Falls Grand Explorer CVa21. On a route like this, the road is sometimes hard and catering can sometimes become a challenge, its not easy producing new and interesting meals for the clients that are travelling on the trucks. Most of the guides, I would say, are pretty good cooks. We swap the guides around after every 2 or 3 trips so that they are training 24/7 whilst on the road. Learning from each other, the arts of guiding, cooking, people skills that are beneficial to running this style of travel.
I (Annika) and Moses recently returned from one of the few tours offered in South Africa, which includes the visit and overnight stay in the mountain kingdom of Lesotho. Sunway Safaris visits Lesotho on our South Africa Scenic Route 18 days Camping Tour from Johannesburg to Cape Town and a lot of guests choose this tour because of the stay in this small, rural kingdom. The reasons do not have to be looked for – it is a stunning country not to be missed!
So this week I decided to mix it up a little with the blog, usually we use something written by a guide, but I (Tara-Lee) received an email from a client that recently did an NB21, with guides Wayne and Cloud, which really made me smile, so thanks to Neil & Kay Kitching for allowing us to publish their email.

Now that we have been home in Scotland for 2 weeks after our fantastic 3 week Desert and Delta trip we have had some time to look through photos and share stories with friends and family and we have had a chance to reflect on our trip.
It is with this reflection that we further appreciate the care and attention to detail that has gone into the planning of such a safari covering such big mileage.
