Dee having returned from a private tour through Botswana had the following to share. Doing a private tour gives you an opportunity to take part in a new experience and one of those were our encounter with our furry little friends the Meerkats! At Planet Baobab in Botswana on the edge of the Makgadikgadi pans there is a little family of meerkats that is being habituated.
This meaning that there is a guy spending a great amount of time with them to make them used to humans. Thus giving people the chance to be up close and personal with these little guys. Sitting at the entrance of their den which is a heap of sand that leads to a series of tunnels underground, one stuck his head curiously out of the hole. The next moment there was 4 little babies popping out right behind him and we were all so excited!
We spent most of the morning walking with the rest of the gang while they scurrile around on the plane digging for their morning grub which mainly consists of spiders, scorpions, beetles and other insects. We were quite amazed how they were not fazed about us being there. We took so many amazing pictures of them. They were very busy digging and scratching around which can be quite a challenge. We were very surprised to see how small and delicate they really are. Each one of them had a little personality of their own. A very special experience indeed!!
